Sudbury Volunteer Managers Network
The Sudbury Volunteer Managers Network (SVMN) is a network hosted by United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts and Volunteer Sudbury and has been in existence for 7 years.
Mission: To foster excellence in volunteer management through peer support and professional development.
Vision: All volunteers will enjoy supportive environments and leaders who are skilled in volunteer management.
SVMN involves a number of local volunteer managers who meet monthly to build their skills through training and peer mentorship. The network was created in order to assist non-profit agencies achieve the overall success of their organizations and volunteer teams.
Monthly training sessions have included such topics as: recruitment, discipline and release, conflict management, volunteer retention, and volunteer appreciation.
Every year, SVMN hosts the Volunteer Managers Training Days. Training Days offers a variety of workshops related to volunteer management over a two-day period. Training Days 2012, themed ‘The Super Hero in You’, offered twelve workshops in both English and French and four plenary sessions. Close to 40 volunteer managers attended.
SVMN strongly believes in volunteer recognition and appreciation. For our second year, SVMN helped to organize a community volunteer appreciation campaign for National Volunteer Week. This year, the network organized a PASSION ACTION IMPACT bracelet campaign. On Monday, April 16, 10,000 bracelets were distributed to 57 local agencies. This campaign was generously sponsored by Northridge Savings Credit Union.

SVMN also organized and hosted the inaugural Volunteer Manager of the Year Award. Local volunteers were invited to nominate a special volunteer manager that made a difference in their life. Sylvie Daviau, Volunteer Coordinator at Maison Vale Hospice, was the first recipient of the award. Congratulations Sylvie on a job well done!
SVMN is always open to new members and always looking for new collaborations and to develop innovative ways to support local volunteer managers in the vital work they do!
