Better Beginnings Better Futures

Pre-Teen Program - The Pre-Teen Afterschool Program is offered Monday to Friday for children between the ages of 9 and 13 and during the summer months (8 weeks) the program is offered Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The program offers a safe place for children to come and meet their friends, learn new things while having fun, receive a nutritious snack and help with their homework.  They are also provided with organized sports, games, educational outings, and workshops.  Children also have access to books, computers, games, equipment and material.

Baby’s Breath - The Baby’s Breath program provides a safe, confidential, and social environment where pregnant and parenting teens can meet with a group of their own peers in order to speak of their experiences and accomplishments.  This program provides dinner before program, baby equipment, a variety of supports to decrease prenatal and parental stress,prenatal and parenting education, positive feedback, community resources, clothing, food, diapers, formula and much more. The hours of operation are as follows: the Prenatal Program is Mondays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and the Parenting Program is Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m

NOAH’s S.P.A.C.E.- Our program in partnership with other community agencies provide a centralized location where all our clients can participate in comprehensive, seamless  social services delivery. In collaboration, with our community partners we provide support in such areas as; addictions/treatment, mental health, HIV/Aids, peer counselling, general counselling, employment, housing, legal, Aboriginal specific services, school advocacy, women’s services, health services, and domestic/relationship service.

Independent Living Skills Program - Independent Living Skills is the new program name.  The previous name was Rehabilitation and Referral.  This program provides assessment/training in skills of daily living, involving technical devices, Braille, and computer equipment.  The objective is to learn practical skills that reinforce/encourage increased independence and social competence.

Orientation and Mobility Program assists clients to develop/re-establish safe/independent travel skills.  Each program plan is individualized, based on client's expressed needs (i.e. age, remaining sight, capacity) and involves travel techniques, sensory/spatial awareness and concept development.

Low Vision Services Program - Low Vision Services is a new program name.  This program used to be called Sight Enhancement Services.  This program measures remaining useful vision and helps clients make the most of that remaining vision by recommending low vision aids and providing training in their use.

Counselling and Referral Program - These services assist people individually and in groups: to enhance, modify, or restore their social and emotional functioning that has become constrained due to vision loss.

Early Intervention Program - These services assist children, aged 0 - 6, to build a foundation for their future growth and development that is consistent with their individual potential, in partnership with parents/guardians and caregivers. High Technology Assessment

High Technology Assessment Program is to make clients aware of the available technology and services which will help the maintain or regain independence and access information.  This program will help clients to understand their choices, which items will best meet their specific needs, and how to effectively use the devices they have chosen.

Canadian Red Cross

Disaster Services Program - offers the preparing and provision of emergency food, shelter, clothing, personal services and family reunification in the event of a small or large scale disaster.

Home Maintenance Program - The goal of this program is to improve health, well-being, and independence of seniors and persons with disabilities and/or accute/chronic illness or injuries by providing the basic services seniors need to thrive in their own homes, thereby avoiding hospital admissions and delaying entry into long term care facilities. Clients are assisted with the independent activities of daily living such as house cleaning, snow removal, and yard maintenance.

Housing Registry/Homelessness Initiative Program - The goal of the Housing Registry and the Rent Bank is to help individuals and families secure permanent affordable accommodations, thereby eliminating homelessness.

RespectED Program - The RespectED program breaks the cycle of abuse, neglect, and interpersonal violence through prevention education and in so promotes safe, respectful, and supportive relationships for individuals within the family and within the community.

Seniors' Transportation Program - Provides door-to-door transportation to frail elderly individuals who have no other means of transportation.  This program is provided by volunteer drivers who take the clients to medical, personal, and business appointments as well as shopping.  Transportation allows for access to needed services, reduces isolation, and allows seniors to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

Clinique du coin/Corner Clinic Program - The Corner Clinic offers accessible health care and social services to hard to reach individuals and the homeless in the Greater Sudbury Area under one roof.

Elizabeth Fry Society of Sudbury

Ongoing Support and Volunteer Services Program - The Ongoing Support and Volunteer Services Program involves both the delivery of direct client services in the community and in correction facilities, and in the development of volunteer resources. Program staff and volunteers provide counselling, support, practical assistance, court support, jail visitation, institutional programming and outreach services to adolescent and adult women who are, have been, or are at risk of becoming in conflict with the law.

Family Enrichment Centre

Counselling/Treatment Program - This program offers professional individual/couple/family counselling and group treatment and wellness programs/workshops for a variety of emotional, psychological and relational issues. The goal is to provide short-term affordable and accessible services for those who are in low income situations and have limited financial means. Clients are assisted in managing issues through education and solution focused support. To be eligible, clients must have limited financial means and not suffer from a serious mental health disorder.

Inner City Home of Sudbury

Life Skills Workshop - The Inner City Home of Sudbury offers three primary Life Skills Courses, which are Anger Management; Stress Management & Building Self Esteem.  These Courses are based on experiential learning in a group setting.  In addition to these Courses the clients benefit from a needs’ assessment for group readiness which allows the clients to identify further problems that may be impeding on their success towards their well- being.  Direction / Recommendations and Agency referrals are provided during the assessment as well as reassurance that Inner City Home will remain a support Agency for them throughout their journey. Clients can also take advantage of the short term Counselling; supportive Life Management Counselling; Advocacy and Resource Services available at Inner City Home.

Hospitality -Inner City Home of Sudbury is a Drop In Crisis Centre that offers Hospitality  to those less fortunate and in crisis who need someone to listen to their story.  A person needing this assistance can drop in -  have a coffee & a snack and know that there is a caring and skilled volunteer who will listen to their story and accept them where they are at any given time without judgements.  Drop In hours are Monday to Friday – 10:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

John Howard Society

Community Support Initiative Program - This service assists people who are or have been in conflict with the law. This service includes direct work with inmates before and after release to address issues such as pre-release planning, finding appropriate housing, and employment upon release and supportive counselling. This service also assists the families and children of persons in conflict with the law though direct assistance and/or supportive counselling.

Horses and Youth Therapy Program - This program serves youth who are or have been in conflict with the law, possibly associated/affiliated with gangs or having serious behavioural issues in a school setting. The uniqueness of this project is that life skills aretaught through either cognitive behavioural techniques or experiential practice. The youth learn how to care for and control horses. They learn the basics about horsemanship, starting with the general care, grooming and tacking necessary, thus developing these basic skills in their own lives.

Jubilee Heritage Family Resources

Best Start Hubs: Jubilee West End Best Start Hub and South End Best Start Hub is a one-stop centre connecting families to a wide range of services and resources. Best Start Hubs will support Home, Child Care and Schools by: a) supporting families with parenting programs and family activities; b) providing a rich learning environment; c) helping children to be ready for school, ready to learn and ready to succeed.

Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury

Community Resources Program - This program supports all individuals with learning disabilities in reaching their full potential, within a community that values their unique contributions and abilities.  The goal is to reach out into the community through awareness, education, and understanding of learning disabilities; focusing on the needs of children and youth through programs and services provided under the Community Resources Program.

Community Outreach and Awareness Program -The community outreach program involves bimonthly, evening, community education/information sessions for individuals with LD, parents, educators, and community workers.  Program will include a "speaker series."

Coaching Program and Assistive Technology - This program was called Bridges to Learning last year.  This program will develop a community-based volunteer tutoring program for students and assistive technology program as an expansion of our excellent partnership with the Greater Sudbury Public Library.

Maison VALE Hospice

Psychosocial/Spiritual Care Program - The Psychosocial/Spiritual Care Program responds to the psychosocial, spiritual and religious needs and interests of residents and families of the Hospice. These may include but are not limited to: end-of-life decision making, grief and bereavement, issues of death, dying and loss, compassion fatigue and funeral planning. Also, the residents' preferred spiritual and/or religious observances are supported and may be complemented by other practices, such as mediation, prayer, and visualization. 

Manitoulin Family Resources Inc.

Emergency Food Bank - The goal of the Emergency Food Assistance Program is to provide professional, accessible, and effective emergency food assistance to people facing hardship in the Manitoulin Island region.

Rockhaven

Beyond the Rock - The Beyond the Rock program was established in response to the lack of affordable, safe housing for men in our community who are in recovery from substance abuse.  In conjunction with an abstinence based program of rehabilitative services, the program offers affordable, cooperative and empowering environment for clients to transition to independent community living with a six month timeframe. To be eligible for consideration, a man must have completed an addiction recovery program, be in the maintenance stage of change, have a source of income and sign a contract agreement prior to occupancy.  During their stay at Beyond the Rock, the men must be working, attending school or volunteering in the community.  Our Counsellor mentors each man, supporting their new life in recovery, and promoting healthy lifesyle changes.

St. John Ambulance - Sudbury Branch

Community Service Patient Care Division Program - This is a group of dedicated uniformed volunteers, whose primary goals include providing first aid services at public and private events, educating the community on first aid, health and safety, and to provide services during municipal emergency situations and disasters.

Sudbury Action Centre for Youth – SACY

Employment Program/Casual Labour Pool - The casual labour pool allows the people the oppourtunity to earn a honest day’s pay for a honest day’s work.

For the past twenty seven years, the Sudbury Action Centre for Youth has been successfully providing employment counseling, referral, and casual labour jobs to the vulnerable youth and adult population in our community.  Many of the workers have difficulty finding and securing employment due to a number of personal and systemic barriers. Past experience has proven that a worker’s basic needs must first be met in order for him/her to begin the process of securing employment. The program also supports many seniors in our community by offering an affordable service that allows them to live in their own homes.

Evening Drop-In Support Program - Provides a warm, safe, non-judgmental environment where at-risk youth (13 to 18 years) can go in the evening hours for support, socialization, recreation, crisis intervention and counselling, and an evening meal.

Peer Mentoring Program - Assists out-of-the mainstream youth to develop their own self-concept, make positive changes to their attitudes and behaviours and better prepare them for all areas of daily living.  In turn these outcomes will be reflected in the youths' ability to contribute his/her community through volunteerism and employment.  In learning to care for others and put that care into practice, these youth will learn to care for themselves and take responsibility for their own choices. Counselling, Life Skills Workshops, and Role Modeling are some of the core features of the peer mentoring program.

Sudbury District Restorative Justice

Community Justice Circles - Justice Circles are a community response to situations of crime and conflict committed by youth and young adults based on the principles of Restorative Justice. The principle goal of the restorative justice process is to give victims a larger role by:

• meeting their need for information about the reasons for and circumstances surrounding the offence,
• allowing them to be heard and ask questions directly,
• to ensure they obtain tangible or symbolic compensation and,
• regain the independence and power that the crime took away from them

Restorative Justice is also meant to have a positive impact on offenders by confronting them with the consequences of their actions and their responsibilities, giving them the opportunity to repair the damage caused to the victim and having them work on finding a solution to their problems. Referrals are received by the Crown Attorney’s Office and Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association

Settlement Services Program - Providing Settlement Services to Immigrants, new-comers, ethnic communities, individuals', international students, and mainstream community members.

Cross Cultural and Youth Services Program - Providing Cross-Cultural awareness, promoting anti-racism activities, promoting multiculturalism and "Just Society," educating on human rights as enshrined in Charter of Rights and Freedoms in Sudbury Community.

Volunteer Sudbury

Matching Hands - Volunteer Sudbury is a volunteer resource centre that acts as a link between organizations and volunteers for the enrichment of the City of Greater Sudbury.  We believe in promoting, encouraging, developing and facilitating meaningful volunteer experiences.  Our Matching Hands program is designed to increase community engagement by assisting citizens in finding volunteer opportunities that best match their skills and time commitment.  Staff work with organizations to source and promote volunteer opportunities and match volunteers with these opportunities.  They can be short term, long term or for a particular project or event.

YMCA Sudbury

Building Strong Kids Program - The program offers four YMCA programs providing opportunities to children, youth, teens, and their families for personal growth through participation in YMCA programs.  The four YMCA programs are: 
1) Youth Membership Assistance program which offers subsidized YMCA memberships for youth at the YMCA facility on Durham Street,
2) Camping Fee Assistance which offers reduced fees for needy children to attend Camp Falcona and John Island Camp,
3) Childcare Family-Time Program which is a free 8 week program for YMCA childcare families to attend activities at the YMCA on Durham Street and
4) Employment Services and Family Counselling Series which is a 6 week program for families of YMCA Employment Services clients offering sessions on nutrition, job skills development, family finances, community supports, and recreational opportunities.

YWCA Sudbury - Genevra House

Community Outreach Program - The YWCA Genevra House is a safe refuge for women and their families who are escaping spousal violence.  The Community Outreach Program provides crisis support, counselling, outreach support, referral services, and follow-up for women having experienced violence in their intimate relationships. The Outreach Program provides 24-hour emergency services, shelter accommodation and transitional support and follow-up outreach services.  The YWCA Genevra House is the only family violence dedicated shelter serving the communities of Greater Sudbury.
