Reliance and United Way Give Away a Free Furnace to a Single Mother
On November 16, Reliance Home Comfort and United Way Sudbury and Nipissing Districts gave away a high efficiency gas furnace for the third annual Why Me? Free Furnace Give Away. This year`s winner is Rachelle, a single mother raising her 4 year old son while facing financial hardship. Reliance is giving Rachelle a high efficiency gas furnace in addition to a one year Comfort Protection Plan for maintenance and service valued at $5,000. Shon Cantin, Sales Manager for Reliance Home Comfort in Sudbury and North Bay says: “When visiting home owners, we make sure they understand the importance of this program and what it is all about. We believe in helping those who truly need it." Rachelle is one of those special people that can use a helping hand. In the past three years, the candidates who received furnaces were all deserving individuals. Even though times are difficult for them and their families, these strong individuals still find time to help others and always put themselves at the end of the receiving line. This is what is truly important and what this program is all about: paying it forward in one possible way or another,” continued Cantin. The father of Rachelle’s 4 year old son passed away in April from cancer, and she tries to support her son by working shifts as a nurse. Rachelle has been living off of a line of credit, but that money only lasted six months. With winter fast approaching, Rachelle would have had to use space heaters to keep her and her son warm. Reliance and United Way selected Rachelle as the Why Me? Free Furnace Give Away winner because she needs and deserves a new furnace.
